Huawen® SMA resin (styrene maleic anhydride copolymer) is commonly used as a surface sizing agent for paper in the papermaking industry. SMA resin can provide limited cross-linking between the surface sizing solution and cellulose, thereby improving the printability, hydrophobicity, toner adhesion, friction coefficient and other properties of paper and paperboard, and reducing the occurrence of linting and peeling.
